Corn snakes are also known as rat snake and are very popular as pet. They are most admired among pet snake because of their dazzling looks and easy to adjust captive environment nature. Your pet corn snake can live up to 15 – 20 years but only if provided with proper care. Averagely they can grow up to 3 – 5 feet in length. Corn snakes are moistly found in central and southern part of United States. They are bit shy in nature and are mostly active at night. In winters they hardly like to eat anything and becomes little inactive.

They have great metabolism that makes them to stay alive even in low oxygen and with low blood pressure level. 1. Corn snake enclosure: corn snake do not require large enclosure as they are relatively small in size. Ten gallon aquarium is suitable for a baby corn snake. An adult corn requires an enclosure with minimum dimensions of a standard twenty gallon aquarium. 30 or 50 gallon aquarium is perfect for breeding corn snake.

2. Eating habit of Corn snake: Food such as rodents, birds, eggs, and small lizards are goof for corn snakes. They swallow their prey whole and most of them prepare their food by killing their prey, wrapping it, then squeezing it and allowing the prey to suffocate. You should feed rodents and occasionally bird’s egg to adult corn snake as they like eating it.

3. Breeding corn snake: They usually breed in the month of April-June. Copulation in corn snakes usually happen in night. At times copulation stated after being fed and after shedding as well. The female corn snake will lay the eggs for about 20- 30 days after copulation during summers. It is important for you to incubate those eggs in an efficient incubator so that eggs can have sufficient heat and humidity to hatch. The ideal temperature for incubation of corn eggs is 80 – 84 degree Fahrenheit. Eggs will take 30 to 55 days to hatch. Baby corn snake should be fed on small frogs, nesting rodents, etc.

4. Handling corn snake: Corn snakes are easy to handle as compare to other snakes. It is important for owner constant monitor his pet corn snake as that will help your pet to be stress free. You should spend ample time with your pet in order to make them feel comfortable and secure. You should never allow corn snake to wrap around your body while holding it. They require time to get familiar with the people so beginners should keep this point in their mind.
