Common diseases of pond fish:

1. Fish fungus: It is the most common disease of pond fish. It looks like brown color cotton patches on the fish. It is mostly caused because of unhygienic environment. To avoid your fish from this type of disease, one should make sure that they provide hygienic environment to their fishes. Try to change the water of pond frequently. Though there is wide range of medicines available for controlling fungus in the pond fish. One can prevent their fishes from fungus by using salt in their pond. It is recommended to use salt only if there are no plants in your tank as plants will die if you will expose them to the salt. The best way to avoid fungus is to use medicated food and antibiotics.

1. Fin rot (Ichthyophthirius): This is one of the hazardous fish pond diseases. The common signs of this disease are white pimples all over the body, rubbing on a pond object, loss of appetite. One can treat it by using tetra medicated food and flake “D” in combination with copper.

1. Fish slimy skin: It includes jumping, clamping of fins against the body and listless and cease feeding, grey film over the body surface in pond fishes. It turns the fish into tedious and inactive. The main reason of this disease is poor quality of water. It is contagious disease so one should take active steps to stop this disease in the early hours. One can treat this disease by the use of formalin and salt in their pond. Moreover, Make sure that the filters you use in ponds are working efficiently.

1. Fin rot: It includes white fin edges, fray fins, exposed fin rays, blood on edges of fins, reddened areas at a base of fins, skin ulcers with gray or red margins and cloudy eyes in pond fishes. The reason behind this disease is poor water quality and overstocked pond. Antibiotics like - Chloromycetin or tetracycline can be used to eradicate this disease.
